Chummer supports a handful of house rules that have been requested by players. House rules can be turned on by selecting the House Rules tab in the Options window. This page describes what each of the house rules does within Chummer.

Free Contact Points: CHA x

When this house rule is turned on, characters in Create Mode can add CHA x [given number] BP worth of free Contacts. This should not be used at the same time as Free Contact Points BP.

Free Contact Points BP

When this house rule is turned on, characters receive [given number] BP worth of free Contacts. This should not be used at the same time as Free Contact Points: CHA x.

Karma Build: Free Knowledge Skills like BP Build

This house rule only affects characters that are being built with Karma in Create Mode. When this house rule is turned on, characters receive free Knowledge Skill points in the same manner as characters being build with BP ((INT + LOG) x 3). These free Knowledge Skill points are spread out as evenly as possibly amongst the lowest Ratings of all Knowledge Skills and does not apply to Specializations.

Max. Spirit Force and Mystic Adept Power Levels based on total MAG Attribute

When a Mystic Adept binds a Spirit, the Spirit's maximum Force is usually based on the MAG value they have assigned to their Magician aspect. The maximum level for their Adept Powers is also limited by the MAG value they have assigned to their Adept aspect. When this house rule is turned on, both of these limits are instead based on the character's combined MAG value.

Skill Defaulting Includes Modifiers

By default, Skills do not receive any modifiers when a character is Defaulting, receiving only the linked Attribute - 1 as their dice pool. When this house rule is turned on, any modifiers the character has to the skill will be included while Defaulting.

Essence loss only reduces MAG/RES maximum

When this house rule is enabled, Essence loss only reduces the Maximum value for MAG and RES, rather than both reducing their Maximum and Current values.

No Armor Encumbrance

When this house rule is enabled, Armor Encumbrance is completely ignored and does not affect a character's AGI or REA.

Alternate Armor Encumbrance Threshold

When this house rule is enabled, the Threshold for Armor Encumbrance is calculated as BOD + STR instead of the default BOD x 2.

Allow Cyberware Essence costs to be discounted

When this house rule is enabled, the Select Cyberware window includes an Additional Discount field which reduces the Essence cost of the selected item by a selected percentage.

Allow characters to exceed 35 BP worth of Positive Qualities

When this house rule is enabled, characters will be able to add more than 35 BP worth of Positive Qualities.

Allow characters to exceed 35 BP worth of Negative Qualities

When this house rule is enabled, characters will be able to add more than 35 BP worth of Negative Qualities and receive the full amount of BP.

Characters only receive up to 35 BP from Negative Qualities

This is a sub-rule for the 35 BP worth of Negative Qualities one. When enabled, characters can still add more than 35 BP worth of Negative Qualities, however, they will only receive a maximum of 35 BP back from selecting Negative Qualities.

Multiply the cost of Restricted items

When this house rule is enabled, the cost to purchase Restricted items is multiplied by the value selected. This house rule only applies to Career Mode.

Multiply the cost of Forbidden items

When this house rule is enabled, the cost to purchase Forbidden items is multiplied by the value selected. This house rule only applies to Career Mode.

Allow characters to exceed 50% of points in Attributes

When this house rule is enabled, character are allowed to spend any number of points in Physical Attributes instead of being limited to 50% of their BP (or 50% + Metatype BP cost).

Character can spend any number of points on Nuyen

When this house rule is enabled, character are allowed to spend any number of points on Nuyen instead of being limited to 50 (or 100 for Karma).

Allow the combined Force of Stacked Foci to exceed 6

When this house rule is enabled, the combined Force of Stacked Foci is allowed to exceed 6.

Allow Weapon Accessories and Mods to change their Part of Base Weapon status

When this house rule is enabled, Weapon Accessories and Mods can have their Part of Base Weapon status changed by toggling the checkbox. This reduces their cost to 0¥ and allows players and GMs to quickly create custom variants of a Weapon.

Treat Metatype Attribute Minimum as 1 for the purpose of determining Karma costs

When this house rule is enabled, the Karma cost of improving an Attribute is adjusted as though the Metatype's Minimum value in that Attribute is 1, regardless of its actual value. For example, a Troll's Minimum STR is 5. If the character wants to raise their STR to 6, the Karma cost would be calculated as though they were going from STR 1 to STR 2 instead.

Allow Obsolescent to be removed/upgraded in the same way as Obsolete

When this house rule is enabled, deleting the Obsolescent Vehicle Mod from a Vehicle will be handled in the same was as deleting Obsolete; removing the Mod will cost a percentage of the Vehicle's base cost and replace Obsolescent with Retrofit.

Allow Bioware Suites

When this house rule is enabled, Bioware Suites can be created and added to a character. Bioware Suites behave in the exact same way as Cyberware Suites but are made up of Bioware components instead of Cyberware.

Free Spirits receive Power Points based on MAG instead of EDG

When this house rule is enabled, Free Spirits receive a number of Power Points to spend on Critter Powers equal to their MAG Attribute instead of their EDG Attribute.

Special Attributes do not count towards 50% Karma limit during character creation

When this house rule is enabled, Special Attributes (EDG, MAG, and RES) do not count towards the character's limit of no more than 50% of their Karma being spent on Attributes during the character creation process.

Technomancers may select Autosofts as Complex Forms

When this house rule is enabled, Technomancers may select an Autosoft to be used as one of their Complex Forms.
